How Overtime Is Calculated
Hours up to the threshold are paid at your regular rate. Hours beyond it are paid at the rate times the multiplier, so at $20 an hour and time-and-a-half, overtime pays $30. Working 50 hours with overtime after 40 pays 40 × $20 + 10 × $30 = $1,100. With double time after 48 hours, the last 2 hours pay $40 each and the total becomes $1,120.
Rules vary. In the United States many hourly workers get 1.5 times pay after 40 hours a week, and some states add daily or double-time rules. Other countries use different thresholds and rates, and some salaried roles are exempt. Check your contract and local law; this tool applies exactly the numbers you enter.
