BTU

A BTU (British thermal unit) is a unit of heat energy; BTU per hour measures the heating or cooling power of equipment.

1 watt is about 3.412 BTU/h, and one "ton" of cooling is 12,000 BTU/h. A rough guide for room air conditioners is about 20 BTU per square foot, adjusted for sun, ceilings and people.
