CDN

A CDN (content delivery network) is a network of servers around the world that stores copies of a site's files and serves them from the location nearest each visitor.

Serving images, scripts and styles from nearby cuts Latency, takes load off the origin server and helps absorb traffic spikes and some attacks. A CDN works by caching, so Cache-Control headers decide how long copies stay fresh.
