Confidence interval

A confidence interval is a range around a sample estimate that would contain the true value in a stated share (such as 95%) of repeated samples.

For a mean it is mean ± critical value × SD / √n. A mean of 103 with SD 15 and n = 100 has a 95% interval of about 100.06 to 105.94. A wider interval means more uncertainty, which more data narrows.
