What JSON Schema Does
JSON Schema describes what valid JSON looks like: which properties an object must have, their types, allowed values, string patterns and number ranges. APIs use it to validate requests, editors use it for autocompletion, and configuration tools use it to catch mistakes early. Validating here before you ship a payload or a config file finds problems that would otherwise surface as confusing runtime errors.
This validator interprets the schema directly, without generating code, and covers the core and validation vocabularies. References must point inside the same schema (#/$defs/... or an anchor); remote $ref, $dynamicRef and unevaluatedProperties/unevaluatedItems are not evaluated and are listed as "not checked" when they appear. For those, or for CI pipelines, use a full library such as Ajv.
Key Takeaways
- Paths, not guesses: Errors point at the exact value that failed.
- Syntax errors located: Broken JSON is reported with its line and column.
- Try the sample: The sample shows several common errors at once.
