Why Add a Waste Allowance?
Flooring is cut to fit around walls, doorways and corners, and some pieces are damaged or unusable. Most guidance is to add about 10% to the measured area, and 15% or more for diagonal patterns, herringbone or tile with a large repeat. A 4 × 3.5 m room is 14 m²; with 10% waste you need 15.4 m², which is 7 packs at 2.2 m² each.
Buy a little more than the minimum when you can: dye lots differ, so matching a discontinued product later is hard, and leftover planks are useful for repairs. Measure each room at its widest points, include closets and alcoves, and leave out areas that will be covered by fixed cabinets.
Key Takeaways
- Whole packs: The count is rounded up because boxes are sold whole.
- Units convert: Switching between metric and imperial converts every row.
- Leftover shown: See how much extra you will have for repairs.
