BPM (beats per minute)

BPM, beats per minute, is the tempo of music: how many beats occur in a minute.

Seconds per beat are 60 / BPM, so 120 BPM is a beat every half second. A metronome keeps that steady click while you practise; common tempos run from about 60 (slow) to 180 (fast).
