FIRE (financial independence, retire early)

FIRE is a savings approach that aims to build a portfolio large enough to live off its returns, typically 25 times yearly spending, long before the usual retirement age.

In more detail

The 25 times figure comes from a 4% withdrawal rate, a rule of thumb rather than a guarantee. $40,000 of yearly spending needs $1,000,000. A "coast" number is the amount that grows to the target with no more saving.
