In more detail

In the arithmetic sequence 3, 7, 11 the 10th term is 3 + 9 × 4 = 39; in the geometric sequence 2, 6, 18 the 6th term is 2 × 3⁵ = 486. The sum of the first n terms of an arithmetic sequence is n × (first + last) / 2.
