XML (Extensible Markup Language) is a text format that describes data with nested, named tags, such as <name>Ana</name>.

XML is more verbose than JSON but supports attributes, namespaces and validation against schemas. It is still common in office document formats, RSS feeds, sitemaps, SVG images and many enterprise systems. Every tag must be closed and properly nested.
