Markdown Tables in Brief
A GitHub-flavoured Markdown table is rows of cells separated by pipes, with a second row of dashes that marks the header and sets alignment: :--- for left, :---: for centre and ---: for right. This tool writes that for you, escaping any pipe inside a cell as \| and turning line breaks in cells into <br>, because a table row must stay on one line.
CSV is read the standard way: fields may be wrapped in double quotes, a doubled quote stands for one quote, and quoted fields may contain the delimiter or line breaks. If rows have different numbers of fields the shorter ones are padded with empty cells. Markdown tables cannot hold block content such as lists inside cells, and column widths in the text do not affect how the table is displayed.
