Every Key Tracked

Tested keys stay green, so any key that never lights up is easy to spot.

Rollover Test

Hold several keys together to see how many your keyboard can register at once.

Chatter Detection

A key that fires again within 40 ms of being released is flagged as chatter.

Private

Everything runs in your browser; nothing you paste is uploaded.

What the Results Mean

Rollover is the number of keys a keyboard reports at the same time. Many office keyboards manage only a few keys in certain combinations (ghosting), while gaming keyboards often support six or "N-key" rollover. Chatter is when a single press registers twice, a common sign of a worn or dirty mechanical switch; cleaning with compressed air sometimes fixes it, otherwise the switch needs replacing.

The on-screen layout is US ANSI and is matched by physical position (the code value), so on AZERTY, QWERTZ or other layouts the labels differ from your keycaps but each key still lights up in its place; the key value shows the character your layout produces. Some keys, such as Print Screen, Fn and media keys, are handled by the operating system and never reach the browser.

Key Takeaways

  • Green means working: Press every key once and look for gaps.
  • Hold to test rollover: Press several keys together and read the count.
  • Chatter needs care: Clean or replace switches that double-type.
