Scaling a Recipe Well

Divide the servings you want by the servings in the recipe to get a scale factor, then multiply every amount by it: 4 servings to 6 is a factor of 1.5, so 2 cups of flour becomes 3 cups and 1 1/2 teaspoons of baking powder becomes 2 1/4 teaspoons. The tool reads whole numbers, decimals, fractions such as 1/2, mixed numbers such as 1 1/2 and ranges such as 2-3, and leaves lines without an amount, like "salt to taste", as they are.

Not everything scales in a straight line. Seasoning and spices often need less than the full increase, baking times and pan sizes change, and leavening in large batches can behave differently, so taste and adjust. Eggs and other whole items cannot be split, so amounts that are not whole numbers are marked with an asterisk to round by judgement.
