Really Removes It
The clean-up deletes the Info entries and the XMP packets from the file itself, not just the links to them, and the file is rewritten as a single revision.

What Is Hidden in a PDF
Besides the pages you see, a PDF carries document properties: the title, the author’s name, the program that created it, the program that converted it to PDF, and when it was made and last changed. Many files also hold an XMP packet, a block of XML that apps such as Word, Acrobat and Photoshop fill with the same information and more, such as software versions and document history. Sharing a PDF without checking this can reveal a person’s name, a company’s internal tools or the date a "new" document was really written.
There are good reasons to edit metadata too: a meaningful title appears in the browser tab and in search results, and a correct author and subject help people find the file. Use this tool to fix those, or to remove everything before publishing. Note that metadata is only one place information hides: text, comments, layers and attachments inside the document remain, and removing metadata does not change them. Digitally signed PDFs lose their signatures when they are rewritten.
Key Takeaways
- Checked with poppler: Cleaned files were inspected with pdfinfo and a byte search and no longer contained the Info entries or the XMP data.
- Signatures break: Editing a signed PDF invalidates its digital signature, as any change does.
- Related tools: The EXIF Metadata Remover does the same for photos, and the PDF Page Organizer reorders and removes pages.
